Silver Strikers sign Chaomba to boost attack
Striker George Chaomba joins Silver Strikers from Mighty Waka Waka Tigers to bolster team's attack for TNM Super League.
LILONGWE, MALAWI — In an effort to enhance their performance in the upcoming TNM Super League, Silver Strikers Football Club has announced the acquisition of striker George Chaomba from Mighty Waka Waka Tigers, writes Happy Valirani.
Chaomba, who scored eight goals for his former club in the 2022 season, has signed a three-year contract with the Silver Strikers for an undisclosed fee.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held at the club's offices in Lilongwe, Dr. Lameck Chinula, a board member of Silver Strikers Company Limited, expressed his optimism about the impact Chaomba would have on the team's attacking prowess.
He also emphasised the importance of the coach being involved in player recruitment.
"We want coaches to be able to identify players that they want to work with. The coach had submitted 6 names of players to the board that we are currently chasing, and this is the fifth day since the transfer window was opened. We are happy that George Chaomba is our first signing. We are very excited about that, and I'm sure the coach is also excited about this," Dr Chinula stated.
Furthermore, Dr. Chinula confirmed that the club is actively pursuing additional signings before the transfer window closes.
Regarding the future of Chimwemwe Idana at the club, Dr. Chinula clarified that the player's loan contract with Silver Strikers expired at the end of July, and Idana remains a Mbeya FC player.
"We have been trying to work with him, and if he is available, we should be the first ones to sign him. But obviously, there are so many things going around. When we have new news, we will let you know. Idana remains a player that we also want to get if we can agree on terms with the club he belongs to," Dr. Chinula added.
Expressing his excitement about joining the Silver Strikers, George Chaomba conveyed his aspirations for the team.
"I am very happy that I'm on the Silver Strikers team. It is the wish of every player to play for a big team like the Silver Strikers. I have no pressure, and I am ready to show the supporters that I am a good player and will help the team score goals, aiming to lift the TNM Super League championship at the end of the season," Chaomba expressed.
The transfer window, open from August 1st to August 14th, provides teams with the opportunity to reinforce their squads ahead of the second round of the TNM Super League, which is set to commence on August 6, 2023, according to the Super League of Malawi (SULOM).
