LILONGWE, Malawi - Silver Strikers regained the top spot in the TNM Super League on Sunday, June 11, 2023, with a 1-0 win over Mafco FC at Bingu National Stadium, writes Happy Valirani.
Chimwemwe Idana scored the only goal of the game in the 22nd minute, rounding off two Mafco defenders before slotting the ball into the net.
The win takes Silver Strikers to 21 points, one point clear of second-placed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
Pieter De Jong, coach of Silver Strikers, was happy with the win. "We created a lot of chances and could have scored more goals," he said. "We are happy with the three points."
Prichard Mwansa, coach of Mafco FC, accepted the defeat. "We lost our shape in the first half, and Silver Strikers took advantage," he said.
"We need to go back to the drawing board and work on our weaknesses."
In other results from the ninth round of matches, Red Lins beat Chitipa United 1-0, Moyale Barracks defeated Dedza Salima Sugar 2-0, Kamuzu Barracks beat Bangwe All Stars 2-0, and Blue Eagles drew 1-1 with Civil Service United.
