KARONGA, Malawi — Silver Strikers showcased their title credentials with a commanding 2-0 victory over newcomers Baka City FC on Saturday at Karonga Stadium, writes Lusekero Mhango.
Chimwemwe Kalyala's own goal broke the deadlock late in the first half, and Binwell Katinji sealed the win for the visitors with a late strike.
After the break, Silver Strikers continued to dominate, while Baka City struggled to find a foothold in the game.
The hosts were unable to breach the defense of goalkeeper George Chikooka.
Silver Strikers coach Peter Mponda admitted his side was "a bit sloppy" despite the victory, while Baka City team manager Alick Zumgu criticized the officiating.
"The officiating left a lot to be desired, and it shouldn't happen in the top-flight league," Zumgu said.
