Silver Strikers Close In on TNM Super League Title After Defeating Baka City

LILONGWE, Malawiā Silver Strikers moved closer to winning the 2024 TNM Super League title on Wednesday, defeating relegated Baka City 2-0 and extending their lead to seven points over second-place Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, writes Happy Valirani.
The league leaders remain unbeaten this season, accumulating 61 points from 27 games. Wanderers sit second with 54 points after being held to a 2-2 draw by Mafco FC.
With three matches remaining before the season's early December conclusion, Silver Strikers require just three points to secure their first championship in 11 years.
"It was supposed to be a good game, but the rain has spoilt everything," said Silver Strikers coach Peter Mponda.
"We told the boys that what we want is a win. It's not about the scorelines because the league is not going to be decided by goals."
Baka City coach Kondwani Mwalweni acknowledged the defeat, noting the weather's impact. "We have lost; that's part of the game, but the rains disturbed our plan," he said.
The teams will next meet on Saturday, November 30, at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, with Silver Strikers seeking to cement their championship prospects.
In another Wednesday match, Civil Service United and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets played to a 2-2 draw.
