LILONGWE, Malawi- Silver Strikers climbed to the top of the TNM Super League standings on Sunday after a 3-1 home victory over Bangwe All Stars, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
Binwel Katinji opened the scoring for Silver in the 52nd minute. Man of the match Adiel Kaduya doubled the lead in the 63rd and Charles Chipala made it 3-0 in the 83rd before Patrick Phiri scored a consolation goal for Bangwe in stoppage time.
It was Silver's second straight win to start the season under coach Peter Mponda.
"My boys played very well and with that performance, I knew we would get maximum points and I am glad that happened. However, I was not impressed that we conceded a late goal," Mponda said.
Despite the loss, Bangwe coach Christopher Nyambose felt his side played well against the experienced Silver squad.
"This is one of the best games that we have played...though I'm disappointed for conceding silly goal due to lack of concentration. We did everything, but sometimes you have to give credit to the opponents," Nyambose said.
Silver lead the standings with six points, level with Creck and Mzuzu City Hammers. Mighty Mukuru Wanderers are fourth after beating newcomers FOMO 3-0.
