Shine on Malawi Brings Hope to Mzimba District Through Aid
Shine on Malawi’s focus on education, food security, and community empowerment demonstrates the profound impact of targeted interventions.
MZIMBA, Malawi – Shine on Malawi is making a significant impact in Mzimba District by addressing immediate needs and paving the way for sustainable futures, writes Alinafe Sambo.
Recently, the organisation provided essential aid to a family struggling to make ends meet, distributing 50 kilogrammes of maize and two bags of organic fertiliser to alleviate hunger and support local agriculture.
Among the beneficiaries is Marriette Chirwa, a young girl who had been without necessities for some time. With this support, she now has a renewed sense of hope.
“Our mission is to save lives while creating a sustainable future for the community,” said Stalin Mughandira, Executive Director of Shine on Malawi.
He emphasised that the distribution of food and fertiliser is just a small part of a broader strategy aimed at empowering the people of Mzimba, especially vulnerable children.
"One such child is Marriette, who is set to attend boarding school in 2025, with the hope that education will provide her a pathway to a better future," Mughandira stated.
He also highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing these needs.
“It’s not just about this one girl. Many others in the community need help. Right now, we have seven families that have come to us asking for assistance,” he said.
Mughandira urged the government, local communities, and potential donors to join forces in making a real impact.
“Each contribution, no matter how small, can change lives,” he added.
Marriette Banda, grandmother to Marriette Chirwa, expressed her gratitude, saying the help has come at the right time and will help resolve some of their challenges.
Marriette Chirwa, a Form 2 student at St. Francis, shared her story of perseverance despite hardships.
“I used to walk five kilometres to school every day. My legs would ache and swell, and many days I went to bed hungry. My studies suffered because of that,” she recalled.
“Now, I’m going to boarding school, and I feel like I’m stepping into a new chapter. It’s a dream come true,” she said.
