'School of Gospel' Bridges Gap Between Busy Lives and Charity

MZUZU, Malawi - In a fast-paced world where time constraints often hinder individuals from lending a helping hand to the less privileged, a unique volunteering institution called the School of the Gospel under Saint Egidio in Mzuzu has emerged as a beacon of hope, writes Tionge Hara.
"The School of the Gospel is a place where professionals come together to offer their time and resources to help the less privileged," said Peter Mumba, coordinator for the school.
With its mission to bridge the gap between those who desire to make a difference and their busy schedules, the school provides a platform for compassionate individuals to contribute to charitable causes and positively impact the lives of the less privileged, while balancing the demands of their busy lives.
One member, Julius Mithi, said he joined because he feels obligated as a Christian to assist the elderly and others in need.
"I have been assisting whenever a need arises," Mithi said.
The School of the Gospel aims to address immediate needs of the poor including food, shelter, healthcare and education, while also working towards long-term solutions to poverty and social injustice, Mumba said.
Additionally, the school organizes activities that encourage personal growth and foster a sense of community regardless of one's background or status.
"The School of the Gospel is a welcoming and inclusive environment for all," Mumba said.
Rooted in the Gospel's teachings, the school provides professionals a way to serve the less fortunate while balancing busy schedules.
