Sana Cash & Carry Operates at 70% in 2023 Due to Economic Challenges
Despite the challenges faced in 2023, the company remains committed to providing quality products and maintaining competitive prices for its loyal customers.
Lilongwe, Malawi— Sana Cash and Carry, a prominent retail establishment in Malawi, faced significant challenges throughout 2023, leading to a reported operating capacity of 70% out of a scale of 100%, writes Christopher Jimu.
This revelation was made by Rauf Chaudry, the Managing Director of Sana Group of companies, in an interview with AfricaBrief.
The difficulties faced by the company were attributed to various factors, notably the enduring effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the country's challenging economic environment.
"2023 was very tough. We are still feeling the effects of COVID-19, and this has not only affected us but also our customers. In addition, we encountered issues related to fuel, forex, and inflation. These factors disrupted our strategy to import essential products that are not readily available locally, necessitating several adjustments," explained Chaudry.
In response to these challenges, Sana Cash and Carry took a customer-centric approach. Chaudry stated that they deliberately maintained product prices at their existing levels for most of the previous year to ensure customers were not burdened further.
"We understand the challenges our customers face, and we are always thinking about them and their families. That's why we consistently offer end-of-month promotions, and these promotions will continue through Christmas," he added.
As part of their Christmas promotions, the company will be giving out various prizes to both companies and individuals, aiming to motivate and reward their loyal customer base.
Looking ahead to 2024, Chaudry expressed optimism, stating, "In 2024, the company aims to operate at 90%, God willing."
Customers at Sana Cash and Carry have appreciated the store's competitive pricing.
Thokozani Banda, a regular customer, emphasised that the store's prices are reasonable, making it her go-to destination for monthly shopping.
"Sana's prices are fair, and it is a must for me to do my shopping at the store. I can buy many items within my budget," she commented.
Sana Cash and Carry initially opened its doors in Malawi over a decade ago and currently has stores in all three regions of the country.
Despite the challenges faced in 2023, the company remains committed to providing quality products and maintaining competitive prices for its loyal customers.
