Salima Lauds Impact of Conservation Project
The project is working to build resilience through sustainable environmental management and economic empowerment in the three traditional areas of Salima.
SALIMA, Malawi— Authorities in Salima district are praising the contributions of the Malawi Conserve project toward landscape management and environmental preservation in the area, writes Noel Bauleni.
During a field visit Tuesday to Traditional Authority Chisamba to see community conservation and income-boosting efforts, Acting District Director of Natural Resources and Environment Adam Jason said the project has made a significant impact since its 2021 launch.
"Through the project, communities in the target areas have had their livelihoods transformed through different income generating activities," Jason said.
He noted the establishment of village savings and loan groups instrumental in uplifting lives in the Traditional Authorities of Kalonga, Kambwiri and Chisamba.
Assemblies of God Care Executive Director Brown Muhala Banda said he's overwhelmed by the dedication of beneficiaries implementing the project supported by Tearfund Malawi and Jersey Overseas Aid.
"We urge beneficiaries to continue practicing all the initiatives as the project is phasing out towards the end of this year," Banda said.
Traditional Authority Chisamba commended the organizations and government for the impactful project boosting livelihoods while conserving the environment.
Tearfund Malawi Country Director Vincent Moyo pledged continued community support amid climate change effects.
