SADC Parliamentary Forum Seeks Botswana's Support for SADC Parliament

Gaborone, Botswana - The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Parliamentary Forum today paid a courtesy call on Botswana's President, His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi, urging the country to sign the agreement amending the SADC Treaty and transforming the forum into a SADC Parliament, writes Winston Mwale.
The forum, which aims to enhance regional integration through parliamentary engagement, seeks to establish a fully-fledged SADC Parliament as one of the SADC's institutions, as outlined in Article 9(1) of the SADC Treaty.
Advocate Jacob Mudenda, Speaker of the National Assembly of Zimbabwe, led the SADC PF lobby team in presenting the proposal to President Masisi.
He highlighted the forum's commitment to promoting and improving regional integration in the SADC region through parliamentary involvement.
The delegation included the Speakers of the National Assemblies of Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa, Zambia, and representatives from Angola and Namibia.
