SADC Energy, Water Ministers to Meet in Angola
Meetings of senior officials will precede the joint ministerial session from May 27-30.
GABORONE, Botswana — Ministers responsible for energy and water from the 16 nations of the Southern African Development Community will convene a joint meeting in Luanda, Angola, from May 27-31, according to a SADC press release, writes Winston Mwale.
The energy ministers plan to discuss security of regional energy supply, development of transmission infrastructure financing, renewable energy promotion and cleaner fuels.
They'll also review the SADC Protocol on Energy and regional regulatory initiatives.
"The Ministerial meeting will further review promotion of new and renewable energy sources as well as operationalization of SACREEE as legal entity," the release stated, referring to the SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
Water ministers will deliberate on improving water and sanitation services, transboundary water projects, infrastructure financing, groundwater management and implementing the water-energy-food nexus approach.
"Ministers will also consider updates on ongoing work on revising the regional water policy, and the development of a regional resource mobilization strategy for the water sector," the SADC said.
