Rwanda Urges Innovative Tax Solutions
Tusabe highlighted the importance of domestic resource mobilisation and called for a unified African approach to economic development.
KIGALI, Rwanda — Rwanda's Minister of State has urged African tax administrators to devise creative strategies to tackle economic challenges. This call to action comes as the African Tax Administration Forum celebrates its 15th anniversary, emphasizing the need for innovative approaches in tax administration across the continent, writes Winston Mwale.
Speaking Tuesday at ATAF's 2nd General Meeting, Richard Tusabe emphasised the need for adaptive policy-making in a rapidly changing global economic landscape.
"We know the issues, we know the challenges, and as experts, it is our responsibility to work together," he told attendees.
Tusabe highlighted the importance of domestic resource mobilisation and called for a unified African approach to economic development.
He stressed the need to invest in local economies and strengthen government-citizen relationships.
"It is time to invest in our local economy, in our currencies, and build a strong social contract between the government and the governed," Tusabe said.
The minister acknowledged global economic pressures while maintaining an optimistic outlook.
"15 years of ATAF's existence have been a great experience, but the road ahead is challenging. However, when we work together, we can triumph," he added.
The conference aims to advance tax administration strategies across the continent, with participants focusing on innovative approaches to economic resilience and resource management.
ATAF, founded in 2009, continues to play a critical role in shaping tax policy and administration throughout Africa.
