Rural Church Vows Ongoing Sports Outreach
Saturday's launch at the Milonde Primary School ground aims to grow the sport at the grassroots level and share the Gospel with participants.
LILONGWE, Malawi - Mitundu Baptist Church in collaboration with By His Grace Ministries in Lilongwe has pledged to continue implementing sports development initiatives in rural primary schools as part of its sports evangelism ministry, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
On Saturday, the church is set to launch a grassroots sports program at Milonde Primary School in an effort to develop sports at the local level and share the Gospel with players and spectators.
"We will continue this great work together to build football in Malawi and strengthen our sports ties with the diaspora because as a church we believe that sports evangelism is necessary as it attracts the secularized and unchurched," said Pastor Maclean Chimwenje on Friday.
Chimwenje lauded By His Grace Ministries' programs in Mitundu, which he said have resulted in football development in marginalized areas.
"I would like to applaud By His Grace ministries for implementing, FAM president Mr Fleetwood Haiya agenda for the selfless work the ministry is doing here in promoting the sports from the grassroots and carrying the community along by using the power of sports for good," he said.
The initiative aligns with the goals of Football Association of Malawi President Fleetwood Haiya to provide opportunities for young, raw talents to showcase their skills and serve God, Chimwenje said.
