Rumphi Hospital Reports No New Cholera Cases in Past 8 Days Following Mass Vaccination, Sensitization Campaign
Overall, the district has seen 1,034 cases of cholera and 17 deaths since the outbreak was declared a pandemic in the country in March of last year.
Malawi: Rumphi Hospital has not reported any cases of cholera in the past 8 days, which is likely due to the district's efforts in vaccination and sensitization campaigns, writes Victor Musongole.
Bwanalori Mwamulima, the hospital's spokesperson, said: "We had massive vaccination and sensitization campaigns in the district, and more than 120,000 people received the vaccine and people are now aware of preventive measures to follow. We should also applaud chiefs and religious leaders who played a bigger role in sensitization. Going forward, people should continue following these preventive measures."
GVH Machanyachanya, a chief in the district, added: "As for my area, we are taking all preventive measures seriously, and for some years now we have a committee that conducts regular visits to ensure people have proper toilets and that they are following all measures set by hospitals."
