Among Rotary's flagship projects in Malawi is the construction of the Lilongwe Vocational Training Center, popularly known as MACOHA, in Area 14 of the capital.
LILONGWE, Malawi- Rotary International President Gordon McInally is set to make a historic visit to Malawi from March 26-28, convening with local Rotary clubs, government and community leaders to discuss ongoing and prospective development projects in the region, writes Tionge Hara.
This marks the first visit by a sitting Rotary president to Malawi in 20 years, since the 2003-04 Rotary year when the late Jonathan Majiyagbe from Nigeria became the first African to hold the position.
"A visit by a reigning Rotary president is an opportunity for possible collaborations on life-changing development projects. We're excited to welcome President Gordon," said Past District Governor Dean Lungu, chair of the main organizing committee.
Among Rotary's flagship projects in Malawi is the construction of the Lilongwe Vocational Training Center, popularly known as MACOHA, in Area 14 of the capital.
President Gordon, who joined Rotary in 1984 at age 26, is also visiting Nigeria, South Africa, Rwanda, Egypt and Chad during his African tour. His vision is for Rotary's style to suit everyone desiring to do good globally.
An interface with Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera is expected among Gordon's engagements, as Rotary explores potential partnerships to uplift local communities through sustainable initiatives.
