Rotary club pledges to support child with walking difficulties
Excellent's father, Focus Buntubwayo, who earns a living by selling 'Mandasi,' (Malawi Doughnut) praised the Rotary Club of Bwaila-Lilongwe for its kindness to his son.
Malawi: The Rotary Club of Bwaila-Lilongwe has pledged to assist Excellent Muthabadzi, a five-year-old Dzaleka resident who developed a mysterious illness that paralysed his legs.
Dr. Stella Kasirye, President of the Rotary Club of Bwaila-Lilongwe, stated that their commitment came after learning about the challenges that the boy faces as a result of his condition.
"Excellent was living near a brother of one of our former presidents, Past President (PP) Alex Adams, and because the brother knows what the rotary does, he approached PP Alex and explained the problems that Excellent had encountered. After that, PP Alex told our group about the boy, so we decided to do something," Kasirye explained.
She went on to say that as a rotary club, they will assist Excellent in obtaining medical assistance that will allow him to begin walking on his own.
"First and foremost, we want Excellent to go for further assessment with the physiotherapist because we recognised that he is able to stand, which means there is ability there, and by doing more physiotherapy, we hope to see him making his steps little by little," she explained.
The Rotary Club of Bwaila-Lilongwe recently handed over a wheelchair worth over K100,000 to Excellent as part of his mobility challenge.
The club also provided some clothes and money to support the boy's home care.
Excellent's father, Focus Buntubwayo, who earns a living by selling 'Mandasi,' (Malawi Doughnut) praised the Rotary Club of Bwaila-Lilongwe for its kindness to his son.
"My business is very small, but I was failing to provide enough support to my son, so I am extremely grateful for the commitment shown by the Rotary Club of Bwaila-Lilongwe to supporting my son," Buntubwayo explained.
