Rights Advocate Questions Former President's Re-Election Bid
Mwakasungula also advised the opposition to unite for the national good, transcending party differences.
MZUZU, Malawi - Undule Mwakasungula, a governance and human rights advocate, urged former President Peter Mutharika to prioritize Malawi's interests over personal ambitions, writes Gift Kaimila.
Mwakasungula's comments follow Mutharika's declaration to run again in the 2025 general election.
"Professor Mutharika's decision to stand again warrants careful consideration of his age, well-being, and past record, which cannot be ignored given the multitude of challenges Malawi faces," Mwakasungula said.
He further urged Mutharika to acknowledge some progress made by the current Tonse Alliance government, despite ongoing hardships.
Mwakasungula also advised the opposition to unite for the national good, transcending party differences.
