Research Key for National Growth - Expert

LILONGWE, Malawi - Research is a major factor that can contribute to the development of a country, according to Dr. Chrisy Thakwakakwa, acting director for the Centre for Social Research at the University of Malawi, writes Peter Davieson.
"For the country to have developments it starts from research because research finds out what resources are there and what gaps are there and what could a country as whole do to improve developments," Thakwalakwa said Monday during an outcome harvest workshop organized by the Centre for Social Research with funding from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
Speaking at the workshop, Thakwalakwa said research focuses on identifying gaps and solutions to fill those gaps.
"Research dwells much on finding the gap and solutions to fill those gaps," she said.
Thakwalakwa also revealed that the center received funds in 2022 from UNICEF for capacity building for staff at eight universities, including the University of Malawi, Mzuzu University, Malawi University of Science and Technology, Catholic University of Malawi, Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, University of Livingstonia and Kamuzu University of Health Sciences.
The workshop aimed to review gaps and find a way forward, she said.
