Religious group launches prayer program for vendors in Limbe market
The program also highlights the intersection of faith and economic concerns in Malawi, as religious groups seek to address both spiritual and material needs in their communities.
BLANTYRE, Malawi— National Repentance Malawi, an interdenominational prayer organization, launched a prayer program for vendors at Limbe market on Saturday, writes Gift Kaimira.
Dr. Edward Mikwamba, national coordinator for the group, said the initiative aims to include vendors who spend most of their time trading for daily income.
"From August 9-20, 2024, we're hosting international repentance week services to pray for the country's social and economic turnaround," Mikwamba said.
"We thought it wise to incorporate vendors in our repentance prayer activities so they're not left out of God's kingdom."
The program is part of the organization's 2024 national repentance activities.
Paul John, a vendor, praised the initiative, saying it provides spiritual motivation.
This outreach reflects a growing trend in Malawi where religious organizations are increasingly engaging with informal sector workers, recognizing their significant role in the country's economy and social fabric.
The program also highlights the intersection of faith and economic concerns in Malawi, as religious groups seek to address both spiritual and material needs in their communities.
