Religious Group Calls for Unity in Prayer to Address National Challenges
The call for unity in prayer comes as Malawi grapples with economic difficulties and political divisions, highlighting the role of religious organizations in addressing national issues.
BLANTYRE, Malawi— A religious organization, National Repentance Malawi, is urging citizens and politicians to unite in prayer to overcome the country's challenges, writes Mayamiko Phiri.
Rev. Dr. Edward Mikwamba, coordinator of National Repentance Malawi, made these remarks during a media briefing in Blantyre on Saturday.
"Many of the challenges our country faces can be dealt with if we unite in prayers," Mikwamba said. He expressed concern that some religious leaders are dividing politicians for personal gain.
Mikwamba highlighted the country's deteriorating economy compared to neighboring nations, which has led to widespread poverty.
In response, National Repentance Malawi has organized national prayers from Aug. 9-20. The event aims to pray for healing of the nation and other African countries facing similar challenges.
The main prayers will be held at Elshammah International Church in Chikwawa, with subsequent events in Thyolo, Balaka, Dedza, and Lilongwe.
Mikwamba said pastors from Tanzania, Zambia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Uganda, and South Africa are expected to attend this year's National Repentance Summit prayers.
