Region 5 Youth Games begin in LL

Malawi: Minister of Sports and Youth Richard Chimwendo Banda on Friday handed over the Region 5 torch to Mayor of Lilongwe City Richard Banda, symbolizing the country's capital city's hosting rights, as sports legends presented the torch to the minister, writes Judgement Katika.
Chimwendo Banda stated that the country will benefit in a variety of ways, including business.
The minister also revealed that President Lazarus Chakwera and President of Mozambique Fillipe Nyusi will kick off the games on Saturday at the magnificent Bingu National Stadium.
After accepting the donation, Lilongwe City Mayor urged Malawians living in Lilongwe to attend the launch in large numbers.
The mayor stated that security has been put in place to ensure the safety of all residents and athletes.
Sports legends supported the gesture by attending the ceremony.
The legendary athletes were represented by Kinnah Phiri, Mary Waya, and John Mwathiwa.
Chimwendo Banda stated that the Region 5 games are critical because they will help bring forex into the country.
Businesses such as restaurants, car rental, lodging, and other services will benefit alongside the national economy.
According to Chimwendo Banda, the Government of Malawi has funded the construction of a world-class Aquatic Complex capable of hosting any international competition through these games. And this will be part of sport's contribution to tourism, bringing in much-needed foreign currency.
The games have resulted in the development of human capital through the training of over 400 technical officials, who will then raise the Malawi flag higher by officiating at other major international competitions.
The African Union Region 5 Games are so important to Malawi that the country expects to earn at least $2 million (almost MK2.3 billion).
Companies will also benefit from product placements, client recruitment, and the introduction of new products or services.
Companies will have access to over 100,000 physical spectators as well as the opportunity to benefit from media exposure as well as entrenching brand amongst youth to create lifetime brand loyalty and the generation of qualified business leads for partners as a result of the games in Malawi.
