CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA — The Malawi National Netball Team, the Queens, secured a 7th-place finish in the 2023 Vitality Netball World Cup tournament held in Cape Town, writes Happy Valirani.
Malawi clinched victory against Tonga with a score of 64-54 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Sunday, August 6.
Despite their triumph, the Queens missed their opportunity to secure a higher position in the tournament after suffering a defeat against Uganda on Thursday.
Ultimately, the Queens displayed their unwavering determination, securing a commendable 7th-place finish, while Tonga finished in 8th position.
This year's Vitality Netball World Cup champions are the Origin Diamonds of Australia.
In the final match, the Australian team prevailed over England, triumphing with a score of 61-45 and claiming the championship for the 12th time.
England finished in second place, followed by Jamaica in third and New Zealand in fourth.
Uganda secured the 5th position, while South Africa settled for the 6th place in the tournament.
The 2023 Vitality Netball World Cup, which commenced on July 28th, 2023, came to a successful conclusion on August 6, 2023, in Cape Town, South Africa.
