Preparations for Khulubvi Cultural & Heritage Festival going well-organiser

Cultural dances are expected to be performed at this festival by various cultural groups from Malawi and Mozambique, including Chitoto from Mozambique, Maseseto, Utse, and Chitsukulumwe.

Malawi: Preparations are underway for the Khulubvi Cultural and Heritage Festival, which aims to promote Sena and Mang'anja culture and heritage in Malawi, particularly in the Lower Shire Valley Districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje.

In an interview with AfricaBrief, Joel Issat, director of events for Nyamithambo Arts Palace, stated that this year's event will bring people from the Sena and Mang'anja tribes from across Malawi, particularly the entire shire Valley Districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje, as well as Mozambique.

Issat went on to say that this year's event will be held at Nsanje Prison Ground from July 1 to 3 next month, with more Sena and Mang'anja tribes participating.

"In opening the event, the Pastor's fraternal will start the event with a special prayer service which will include sermons along with different Gospel music artists performances and On 2 July 2022, this will be Seconded by Cultural Dances performances from different parts of the Lower shire and On 3 July 2022, the very last day of the event there will be a football match and some other sporting activities," Issat said.

"People of the Sena and Mang'anja tribes from Malawi and their counterparts from Mozambique will have a great opportunity to get together, eat and drink together, and learn about the Sena and Mang'anja culture and heritage, Culture brings Identify, Culture promotes Unity," said Issat.

Ngoni have Ntchangano wa Maseko Ngoni, Lhomwes have Mlakho waLhomwe, and many other tribes have their own well-known Cultural festivals. It is their wish for this year's Khulubvi Cultural and Heritage festival to be the first of its kind, in a very special way, to establish it as an annual festival for Sena and Mang'anja people in Malawi.

Nyamithambo Arts Palace, Nsanje District Council, and Nsanje Communities are organising this year's festival.
