Police Sweep Operation Nets 25 in Mzuzu
25 individuals were arrested in Mzuzu by police in a sweeping operation exercise-Tionge Hara.
Malawi - Mzuzu Police conducted a sweeping operation exercise on February 14, 2023, resulting in the arrest of 25 individuals found to be in violation of various laws, writes Tionge Hara.
According to Assistant Spokesperson for Mzuzu Police, Rose Chipyola, the operation was conducted in the city centre, Zigwagwa, Mzuzu Depot, Mchengautuwa, Masasa, and other surrounding areas.
"The main aim of the exercise was to deal with all illegal practices that are happening in the city, including unlicensed businesses, illegal vending, being found in possession of cannabis sativa, touting, suspects on the wanted list recently involved in robberies, theft in the city, and also vehicles found to have been wrongly parked in the city's CBD," said Chipyola.
The suspects, including 43-year-old Chivungo Gondwe of Mbale village T/A Mbelwa in Mzimba district, will appear in court soon to answer various charges levelled against them once investigations are complete.
Chipyola said Mzuzu Police is committed to putting all criminal elements at bay in the city and surrounding areas.
