MALAWI: Police have launched a manhunt in Mangochi for unknown suspected murders who stabbed Asiyatu Kassim to death two days ago.

Public Relations Officer for Mangochi Police Station, Amina Tepan Daudi, the victim faced the tragedy on 27 December 2021 at Mponda Village in Mangochi.

Said Daudi, “Our findings show that Asiyatu was staying with her husband at an isolated place in the village and three weeks ago, the husband was taken away by his relatives for medical attention after he fell seriously ill leaving her behind alone.”

The Police were alerted by people who were passing by the victim's compound upon sensing the strange bad smell and flies which prompted them to force open the door and found her lying on the mat with bloodstains.

However, the police are suspecting that Asiyatu was raped before she was stabbed several times in the neck.

Postmortem conducted at Mangochi District Hospital showed that death occurred due to loss of blood.

Meanwhile, Mangochi police are appealing to the public who may have information that may lead to the arrest of the assailants to tip them.
