Police arrest man, recover items worth millions of Kwacha
According to police records, unknown criminals terrorised and committed serious crimes within the township from December 2021 to February 2022.
Malawi: Police in Chitipa have arrested Innocent Nyondo, 30, on suspicion of breaking into various buildings and fleeing with various items worth millions of Kwacha.
According to police records, unknown criminals terrorised and committed serious crimes within the township from December 2021 to February 2022.
Deputy Public Relations Officer for Chitipa, sergeant Rabson Mkandawire, said it was during this time that a number of houses and shops were broken into, including the Chitipa District Sports Office and Aunt Jane International Bar.
All incidents were reported to Chitipa Police Station, and detectives launched investigations, leading to the suspect's arrest during a sweeping exercise on November 3rd, 2022 at Imfumbo Trading Centre.
The detectives also recovered some of the stolen property, including two large omega speakers, a rock sonic amplifier, a Samsung plasma screen, a Toshiba laptop, and five chairs already identified by owners.
Apparently, the suspect has already begun court proceedings in response to the charge of breaking into a building and committing a felony.
Nyondo is from Mwenefumbo Village in Chitipa's Traditional Authority Mwaulambia.
