Pashelo Charitable Trust Donates Sunscreen Lotions to Persons with Albinism in Chikwawa and Nsanje
The sunscreen lotion donations have offered a ray of hope and protection for persons with albinism in these underserved regions.
CHIKWAWA, Malawi — Chairperson for the Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) in Chikwawa Tsoka Banda has hailed Pashelo Charitable Trust (PCT) for reaching out to the hard to reach areas with the donations of sunscreen lotions to the communities with albinism, saying it is going to address the challenges they were facing in the district, writes Cornelius Lupenga
Speaking on Friday during a stopover visit by PCT in Mankhwira, Chikwawa, Banda highlighted the vital impact of this initiative, particularly for persons with albinism residing in remote and underserved communities.
"We have albinism individuals living in hard-to-reach areas who have never seen or used sunscreen lotions," he observed.
Banda stressed the timeliness of the donation, explaining how many people with albinism had been unable to access sunscreen lotions previously.
"People were at zero and had no lotions; worse still, some persons with albinism had developed wounds," he asserted.
He also made an earnest appeal to PCT to continue providing sunscreen lotions to persons with albinism whenever they have access to these essential supplies.
Lloyd Malola, a member of the PCT Board of Directors, explained that the Non-Profit Organization distributed sunscreen lotions in various locations, including Nchalo, Chikwawa Boma, and Mankhwira, within the Chikwawa district.
He expressed gratitude to Thandizo Organization for their generous donation of lotions valued at K5.5 million Kwacha, which allowed PCT to reach out to Chikwawa and Nsanje districts.
Malola concurred with Tsoka Banda, acknowledging that individuals with albinism living in remote and underserved areas often face barriers to accessing essential resources.
"We are delighted to have reached these individuals who had never received sunscreen lotions before," he stated.
The Board of Directors assured that, in the event of receiving another shipment of lotions, the Trust is committed to expanding their reach to benefit more persons with albinism in the Shire Valley districts.
In a related development, the Chairperson for the Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) in Nsanje, Lyton Sekabe, disclosed that they had distributed some of the lotions left in the district during a recent awareness meeting organized in Nsanje.
Sekabe highlighted that the lotions had been provided to communities in the area of Senior Chief Mlolo in Nsanje, where persons with albinism often faced significant challenges traveling to Nsanje District Hospital to access vital lotion medication.
The sunscreen lotion donations have offered a ray of hope and protection for persons with albinism in these underserved regions.
