Pashelo Charitable Trust Distributes Sun Skin Lotion to Persons with Albinism
APAM recently conducted an awareness meeting with parents and guardians of learners with albinism in Nsanje.
CHIKWAWA, MALAWI - The Pashelo Charitable Trust has initiated a three-month distribution exercise of Sun Skin Lotion to persons with albinism in the Shire Valley districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
The initiative, costing K5.5 million, targets 164 individuals with albinism based on records from the district chairpersons.
According to Lloyd Malola, a member of the Board of Directors of the Trust, the distribution efforts encompass Nsanje district, specifically the West Bank and the East Bank in the area of Senior Chief Mlolo.
The Trust's initiative is driven by the vulnerability of these communities to the sun's heat due to their sensitive skin.
Malola acknowledged the support received from international partners, which has enabled the Trust to undertake this project.
Lyton Sekabe, representing the Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) for Nsanje, expressed gratitude for the Trust's support, particularly during a period of intensified heatwaves in the Shire Valley districts.
He noted that accessing sun skin lotions often requires travel to Nsanje District Hospital, making the Trust's distribution efforts particularly valuable.
Sekabe urged other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and well-wishers to follow Pashelo Charitable Trust's example and support persons with albinism.
