Pamoza Tingakwaniska Youth Organisation donates medical supplies worth K640,000 to Nyungwe and Iponga Health Centres in Karonga district, enhancing family planning services.
KARONGA, MALAWI — Pamoza Tingakwaniska Youth Organisation, through its Fiska Ulato project, has donated medical supplies worth K640,000 to Nyungwe and Iponga Health Centres in Karonga district, writes Ellah Chirwa.
The organisation aims to address problems related to sexual and reproductive health and improve family planning services in the area.
Gomezgani Mhango, the programme manager for Pamoza Tingakwaniska Youth Organisation, explained that an assessment revealed a shortage of medical supplies in the Nyungwe and Iponga areas, hindering the provision of family planning counselling to women and girls.
In response, the organization developed a work plan to purchase assorted drug supplies for these health centres every two months to bridge the gap.
Mhango stated, "We are doing this to make sure there is smooth running of family planning service delivery in these health centres."
Leonard Ngóma, a Nurse and Midwife Technician at Iponga Health Centre, expressed appreciation for the organization's support, highlighting the high number of clients they serve compared to the medical supplies provided by the government.
Ngóma said, "We thank Pamoza for being a true partner, and through its support, we can reach many of our clients without problems. They are now satisfied with our service delivery."
Emmah Sikwese, a Nurse and Midwife Technician at Nyungwe Health Centre, also expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasising that it will greatly improve their ability to deliver services efficiently.
She mentioned that previously, clients had to purchase drugs from pharmacies, which posed a burden, particularly for those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
With the donated supplies, the health centre now has a good stock of medication.
Lucia Kumwenda, an expectant woman at Nyungwe Health Centre, commended Pamoza Tingakwaniska Youth Organisation for their support, emphasising the importance of medication in a person's life.
The donated medical supplies included Gauze Sauer, Examination gloves, Cotton wool, pregnancy test lignocaine, 5cc syringes, 10cc syringes, Buffen tablets, plaster spirit, surgical blades, Emergency pills, Omeprazole, washing soap, and hand washing soap.
In addition to Nyungwe and Iponga Health Centres, Pamoza Tingakwaniska Youth Organisation also collaborates with Wenya Health Centre.
Their main objective is to ensure that every woman in the areas of Traditional Authority Mwakaboko and Mwilangómbe receives family planning services without difficulty.
