Pamoza Tingakwaniska Youth Organization provides food relief to drought victims in Karonga, writes Emmanuel Moyo.
Karonga, Malawi-Community members in the area of Traditional Authority Wasambo expressed their gratitude to Pamoza Tingakwaniska Youth Organization for its provision of food relief items to 85 victims of the dry spells that affected Karonga district earlier this year, writes Emmanuel Moyo.
Ediken Ndovie, a beneficiary, remarked, "The donation is timely as most families are suffering from the effects of the dry spells. This organization has indeed come to our aid, and now we will be able to have food in our houses and live healthy lives."
Doris Luhanga shared the same sentiment, saying, "We have been suffering from hunger because of the dry spells.
Now we are happy because we will be able to eat, as Pamoza has given us a full package to make a meal for our families. For this, we are very thankful."
Karonga District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, Shepherd Jere, warned beneficiaries against misusing the donation, stating, "I urge you to properly use what you have received here. If you sell this food, you will prevent other well-wishers from coming to your aid, and it will be very detrimental because more people need this kind of help."
Gomezgani Mhango, the programs manager for the organization, explained the reason behind choosing the area for the donation, saying, "From reports, this area had more affected people, and it is one of the areas where we are implementing the Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights project. When youths suffer from hunger in their families, they do not participate well, hence our support."
Mhango also expressed the organization's intention to reach out to more people in the district.
The donation included 50 kilograms of maize, 5 kilograms of beans, 1 kilogram of salt, 1 litre of cooking oil, and 5,000 Malawi kwacha cash to support beneficiaries in logistics and maize milling.
The total value of the donation amounted to 5 million Malawi kwacha and was made possible with financial support from the Breuckmann Foundation and the generous people of Germany.
