Over 600 Lilongwe youth receive job, business training
MHub has held similar fairs in Salima, Mchinji and Mzimba districts. Groups like NEEF, Standard Bank, Centenary Bank and Univac offered services in Lilongwe.
LILONGWE, Malawi— More than 600 youths in Malawi's capital Lilongwe have received training on jobs and entrepreneurship during two-day fair from 22 and 23 February 2024, writes Martha Nakhate.
The fair was organized by innovation hub MHub, technical college ATVET, NGO AYA and German aid agency GIZ to equip young Malawians with skills to succeed professionally, entrepreneurially and academically.
Peter Chiwawula, MHub's communications and engagement officer, said most youths are unaware of existing opportunities and how to interview well.
MHub has held job fairs where experts offer training and advice.
"We keep the track record of youths who have attended and how many have benefited from the event," Chiwawula said.
He urged youths to "wake up and act now" and explore options beyond waiting for a job.
Chifundo Chiwaka of CorpsAfrica said volunteering provides growth.
Though he studied genetics and seed breeding, volunteering led him to a communications career.
He encouraged youths to volunteer to gain experience and connections.
Grey Mafuta of civic group 21st Generation said the fair lets youths and organizations needing volunteers and ideas find each other.
Electrician trainee Isaack Lomani said the training on resumes and interviewing will help launch his career.
"Most youths do not know how to craft a good curriculum vitae," he said.
