One Acre Fund providing farm input loans to needy farmers

MALAWI: As one way of mitigating hunger and poverty in the country One Acre Fund has embarked on distributing fertilizer loans to needy farmers in Malawi.

One Acre Fund official Frank Nkwaira disclosed this during a farmers’ field day held at Traditional Authority Chamba in Machinga district.

Mkwaila has urged the farmers to make good use of the farm input loans by using them for the intended purposes.

Mkwaira said, “Acre Fund thought it wise to distribute the fertilizer and seed to the farmers on loan as a way out of reducing poverty and hunger in the country since most farmers have no food.”

Chief Agriculture Officer for Machinga district, Feston Kwezani, commended One Acre Fund for complementing government efforts in eradicating hunger and poverty in the district.

He said, “Many farmers are facing challenges in accessing farm inputs because the affordable farm inputs program is not reaching many families in the district; therefore, the One Acre Fund farm input loans will ease these challenges.”
