BLANTYRE, Malawi — Old Mutual Malawi has donated K2 million to the Media Institute of Southern Africa's Malawi chapter to support its annual awards gala, an executive said Friday, writes Gift Kaimira.
The financial services company is the sponsor of the Responsible Business Reporting category at the MISA Malawi awards, scheduled for May 4 in Mangochi district.
"The donation is part of our commitment on the Old Mutual Responsible Business Reporting award," said Rex Kadzongwe, Old Mutual's human capital executive.
Kadzongwe said the company aims to enhance business reporting and public understanding through the award it has sponsored for four years under a memorandum of understanding with MISA Malawi.
Nathan Majawa, a MISA Malawi executive committee member, commended Old Mutual's support, saying "it has cemented their working relationship."
This year's MISA awards gala will be held under the local theme "Guardians of Democracy: Championing Media Independence for Credible Elections."
The global theme for World Press Freedom Day is "A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the Environmental Crisis."
MISA Malawi is a chapter of the regional non-profit that promotes free, independent and pluralistic media.
Its annual awards recognize outstanding journalism across multiple categories, including responsible business coverage sponsored by Old Mutual.
