Officers Donate to Needy in Heartwarming Act
Acting chairwoman Carlo Shaibu said their dream of giving back was fulfilled but it's just the beginning.
Mzuzu, Malawi-In a heartwarming display of compassion, a group of immigration officers has come together to make a difference in the lives of those in need, writes Tionge Hara.
Their selfless act of donating to the needy not only showcases their dedication to serving the community but also highlights the positive impact that individuals can have when they unite for a common cause.
"It is our responsibility to care for the vulnerable," said Superintendent Masopera Gondwe, officer in charge.
The welfare team made the donations on Dec. 30, 2023 to ten needy people as part of the commemoration of the new year.
The function took place at Mzimba Immigration Office premises and was attended by Laban Ndemange, district social welfare officer for Mzimba district council, and drew beneficiaries from different villages in Mzimba south.
Gondwe applauded the welfare officers for successfully organizing the function and thanked Ndemange for helping identify vulnerable people from the area to receive donations.
Gondwe said he was pleased his office could invite the vulnerable from within Mzimba Immigration's area to share a little during the festive season.
He took the opportunity to explain services the office provides and raise awareness about human trafficking, which is prevalent in the area.
Mzimba has a high youth emigration rate to South Africa, contributing to transporters who traffic and smuggle travelers.
Ndemange praised the immigration office for its kindness and encouraged others to follow suit.
"Financial constraints limit our ability to reach all vulnerable people," he said.
Acting chairwoman Carlo Shaibu said their dream of giving back was fulfilled but it's just the beginning.
The donation included soap, soy pieces, buckets and sugar.
Recipient Magie Mhone expressed gratitude and prayed the generosity would spread.
