The result shows that the Mzuzu City Hammers dropped to sixth place with 33 points, while the Nyasa Big Bullets moved into third with 34 points.
MZUZU, Malawi— Defending TNM Super League champions Nyasa Big Bullets were held to a goalless draw by Mzuzu City Hammers on Wednesday at Mzuzu Stadium, marking their tenth draw of the season, writes Victor Musongole.
The Bullets, coming off three consecutive wins, struggled to break down a stubborn Hammers defence.
Bullets' striker Babatunde Adepoju was kept in check by Chikumbutso Henderson and Jimmy Msiska, who formed a solid partnership at the back for the home team.
In the first half, neither side had shots on target.
The only significant attempt came in the 71st minute when Chawanangwa Gumbo's powerful shot forced a save from the Hammers' goalkeeper.
Mzuzu City Hammers employed a defensive strategy, packing the midfield with Bayo Fatayo, Akeem Abioye, and Chinonso Promise. Samuel Adeyemi and Isaiah Nyirenda played behind lone striker Isaac Msiska.
This formation effectively neutralized the Bullets' attack.
Hammers' coach Kondwa Ikwanga expressed relief after the match.
"It was a difficult game. The boys wanted to win, but we created fewer chances. We'll go back and look at how to improve for the next game," Ikwanga said.
Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Kalisto Pasuwa attributed the draw to fatigue and missed opportunities.
"We had chances to score but often resorted to long balls, which didn't work," Pasuwa explained.
"We've had many games in the last 15 days, so a point isn't bad."
Chikumbutso Henderson of Mzuzu City Hammers was named player of the match for his outstanding defensive performance.
The result shows that the Mzuzu City Hammers dropped to sixth place with 33 points, while the Nyasa Big Bullets moved into third with 34 points.
