LILONGWE, Malawi — FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are on the verge of winning the 2023 TNM Super League championship in Malawi after a 1-0 away victory over Karonga United, writes Romeo Umali.
Patrick Mwaungulu scored the winner just five minutes into Wednesday’s clash, heading in a cross from Ephraim Kondowe.
Bullets then leaned on stalwart goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba to fend off Karonga's attacks.
Late in the tense match, the Bullets team bus was pelted with stones by alleged disgruntled fans, causing a delay.
But Bullets emerged unscathed to stand three points clear atop the table.
With 59 points from 29 matches, Bullets could clinch the title in their next game against second-place Silver Strikers, who have 56 points.
For Silver Strikers to overtake Bullets, they would need an 8-0 win when the teams meet on Sunday.
“We are disappointed by the actions after the final whistle, but remain focused on our goal,” said Bullets coach Kalisto Pasuwa.
“The team has battled adversity all season and we are determined to finish the job.”
