Rumphi, Malawi - Nyasa Big Bullets have triumphed over Moyale Barracks with a score of 3-2, securing their position at the top of the Tnm Super League, writes Victor Musongole.
The exciting match was held at Rumphi Stadium on a Tuesday.
Moyale Barracks entered the game shortly after having three points deducted due to the use of midfielder Clifford Chimulambe, who was ineligible to play because of three accumulative bookings.
The home team, Moyale Barracks, got a glimmer of hope just 2 minutes into the game when Lovemore Jere connected a header from a corner by Captain Gastin Simkonda.
However, their celebrations were short-lived, as Ephraim Kondowe equalized for Nyasa Big Bullets just six minutes later after receiving a pass from Precious Phiri. The first half concluded with the score level at 1-1.
In the 49th minute, Kondowe once again made an impact, giving Nyasa Big Bullets the lead after a breakdown in Moyale's defense.
Despite Moyale's persistent efforts to secure an equalizer, they squandered multiple chances.
Substituting Stanley Biliat with Lanjesi Nkhoma at the 58-minute mark, Nkhoma managed to increase Nyasa Big Bullets' lead with a remarkable run from the centre line that saw him pass three Moyale defenders and score in the 73rd minute.
Raphael Phiri managed to reduce the deficit for the home team by connecting a cross from Gastin Simkonda, making it 2-3, and the game ended with that score.
Moyale Barracks' coach, Victor Chingoka, accepted the defeat and attributed it to his players' complacency.
However, he expressed confidence that his team could avoid relegation, saying, "It is a very painful loss; we conceded avoidable goals, but our strikers were good today. We will work on our mistakes so that we can win all three of our remaining games or at least draw one to survive."
Assistant Coach for Nyasa Big Bullets, Heston Munthali, emphasized the importance of the victory for his team, particularly considering their congested fixture schedule.
He stated, "This is a very vital win, considering we dropped two points in our last game. We are happy with four points from the North. You know we are playing and travelling a lot, so we will focus on each game as it comes."
Ephraim Kondowe received the Player of the Match award for his outstanding performance.
With this win, Nyasa Big Bullets returned to the league's summit with 47 points, holding a better goal difference compared to their rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.
On the other hand, Moyale Barracks dropped to 14th place with 28 points, placing them in the red zone with three games left to conclude the season.
