Nyangu Primary School Transforms with New School Block
This new infrastructure will help alleviate the strain on the school's resources and provide students with a more comfortable learning experience.
Chikwawa, Malawi — Nyangu Primary School in Chikwawa District, which previously conducted classes under the open sky, has undergone a significant transformation with the construction of a new school block, writes Moses Thole.
The Member of Parliament for Chikwawa East Constituency, Lodrick Sam Khumbanyiwa, made this possible by utilizing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to improve educational infrastructure in the area.
The newly constructed school block marks a substantial improvement in the learning environment for students who were previously exposed to the elements during classes.
This development is part of Khumbanyiwa's commitment to enhancing education standards in the constituency.
Khumbanyiwa expressed his determination to continue such projects and disclosed that more school blocks are in the final stages of construction in his constituency.
He emphasized the importance of providing adequate educational facilities to ensure a conducive learning environment.
Emmanuel Thonje, the headteacher of Nyangu Primary School, expressed his joy over the newly constructed school block. With relatively high enrollment at the school, additional classrooms were urgently needed as some students had been forced to attend classes outdoors.
Thonje highlighted the challenges they faced during bad weather, which disrupted classes.
He said, "For instance, during the rainy season, heavy winds and rainfall would disrupt our lessons, but the new block will greatly alleviate these issues."
The surge in enrollment has led the school to implement double-shifting phases, with some students attending classes in the morning and others in the afternoon.
This new infrastructure will help alleviate the strain on the school's resources and provide students with a more comfortable learning experience.
Group Nyangu, a local community organization, commended MP Khumbanyiwa for his commitment to development.
They also appealed to villagers to protect the newly constructed building, as vandalism can hinder progress in the community.
Nyangu Primary School, with an enrollment of over 1,000 learners, has now found respite from learning outdoors, and the new school block is expected to have a positive impact on the quality of education provided to the students.
