This initiative aims to educate the public about NWRA's mandates and functions, according to Masozi Kasambala, the Public Relations Officer of NWRA.
Mzuzu, Malawi -The National Water Resources Authority (NWRA) has initiated nationwide tours and engagement meetings with stakeholders as part of its efforts to ensure access to clean water throughout the country, writes Tionge Hara.
This initiative aims to educate the public about NWRA's mandates and functions, according to Masozi Kasambala, the Public Relations Officer of NWRA.
Kasambala shared this information during an interview with the media at the Mzuzu City Council this morning.
The tour and engagement meetings are intended to raise awareness about NWRA's role in promoting clean water access and foster collaboration with various stakeholders.
Yotam Mtafya, the Director of Parks and Environment at the Mzuzu City Council, shed light on the reasons behind the high number of illegal borehole drilling incidents in Mzuzu City.
He attributed this issue to residents attempting to evade water bills.
Mtafya emphasized the council's responsibilities, including obtaining necessary permissions from relevant authorities, similar to the approach taken by the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA).
The overarching vision of NWRA is to establish sustainable water resources accessible to all citizens. This initiative aligns with the authority's commitment to ensuring clean and safe water for communities across Malawi.
