NSANJE MP Donates Refrigerator to Dinde Primary School
The refrigerator is worth over K500,000 and will provide cold water for teachers and learners during the hot weather.
NSANJE, Malawi — Nsanje South West Parliamentarian Eurrita Ntiza Valeta donated a refrigerator to Dinde Primary School under Nyamadzere Education Zone in Nsanje on Tuesday, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
The refrigerator is worth over K500,000 and will provide cold water for teachers and learners during the hot weather.
Valeta said she donated the refrigerator to the school due to the high temperatures Nsanje has been experiencing in recent weeks.
She told AfricaBrief that this is the start of her support for Dinde Primary School and that she plans to extend her generosity to other schools in the constituency.
"We had a heatwave last week for the past three days which were not conducive for teaching and learning," she said.
The MP also said the donation is a way to motivate and encourage teachers and learners, who will now have access to cold water. She observed that education standards have declined at Dinde Primary School and that motivation is needed to improve them.
"I will pay K50,000 to any Standard 8 whose learners are going to secure a Grade A in the Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education," she promised.
However, the lawmaker lamented that some communities encroached on the school campus. She urged traditional leaders to caution their subjects against intruding on the premises meant for the school.
Earlier, Primary Education Advisor (PEA) for Nyamadzere Education Zone Grace Maya hailed the parliamentarian for the gesture, which she said would motivate the teachers.
She said the refrigerator had come at the right time after a heatwave in the district last week.
"Let me appeal to other members of the public to emulate the example of the MP," said the PEA.
The donation comes after a former student, Andrew Gongwe, donated assorted scholastic materials to Dinde Primary School last week.
