Nsanje Lalanje MP Warns Against Relief Support Malpractice
The warning comes as Malawi faces a severe food shortage due to drought and other factors.
Nsanje, Malawi-Nsanje Lalanje Parliamentarian Gladys Ganda has warned against the misuse of relief support intended for hunger-stricken communities in her constituency, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
"Such malpractice is unacceptable and will not be tolerated," Ganda said Wednesday in an interview with the press.
Ganda said she has received reports of individuals soliciting relief support for the affected communities but diverting the aid for their own benefit.
"Those involved will face the full force of the law," she said.
The parliamentarian urged those wishing to assist the affected communities to follow proper channels, such as the Area Civil Protection Committee (ACPC) or the Nsanje District Council.
"This will ensure that the aid reaches the intended beneficiaries," she said.
Ganda also called on community members to report any suspicious individuals to the police.
"We need to work together to ensure that those in need receive the support they deserve," she said.
The warning comes as Malawi faces a severe food shortage due to drought and other factors.
The Nsanje Lalanje area is one of the hardest-hit regions.
