Nsanje Lalanje Legislator Leads Cleanup Exercise to Prevent Diseases
As part of a nationwide campaign, Gladys Ganda led a cleanup exercise to prevent diseases and promote a clean environment at Bangula Old Market.
NSANJE, MALAWI — The Legislator for Nsanje Lalanje, Gladys Ganda, took the lead in organising a cleanup exercise at Bangula Old Market on Friday, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
This initiative was part of a nationwide campaign aimed at keeping the environment clean and preventing the spread of diseases.
Ganda, who is also serving as the Chairperson for the Budget and Finance Committee of Parliament, expressed her appreciation for the large turnout of her constituents for the cleanup exercise.
She emphasised that this cleanup activity would be conducted on a monthly basis within the constituency, encompassing various public gathering places like schools, markets, hospitals, churches, and mosques.
Acting Senior Chief Mbenje commended Ganda for her leadership in organising the exercise, asserting that it exemplifies her commitment to advancing public health.
He explained how the cleanup campaign plays a critical role in eradicating diseases, with a particular emphasis on preventing outbreaks of cholera, which typically occur during the rainy season.
"It is unexpected to witness cholera outbreaks at this time, as they usually happen during the rainy season," stressed the Acting Senior Chief.
"Our goal is to expand this cleanup effort to reach numerous areas within the district, thereby ensuring healthier communities in alignment with the 2063 guidelines."
The cleanup exercise in Bangula Old Market proved to be a success, reflecting the unwavering dedication of the people of Nsanje Lalanje to maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
