LILONGWE, Malawi— The National Registration Bureau (NRB) has announced the commencement of a national ID mop up registration exercise and distribution of ID cards from June 10 across all districts in the country, writes Winston Mwale.
In a statement Sunday, NRB Principal Secretary Mak Sambo said the mop up registration follows the successful completion of the national ID outreach registration on May 28.
It aims to register all eligible citizens who missed the outreach exercise.
"NRB requests all the eligible citizens, especially those left out during the outreach exercise, to utilize this opportunity and register for a national ID," Sambo said.
Registration will be conducted in phases at all centers in each district. It is an ongoing process at NRB district offices and some post offices nationwide.
During the mop up exercise, NRB will distribute national ID cards to citizens registered during the outreach as well as those previously registered but yet to receive their cards.
Sambo reminded the public that registration and application forms for national IDs are free of charge.
He warned against engaging anyone demanding payment, urging the public to report such cases to the nearest police station.
For assistance, the public can visit their local NRB district office or call 0987074074, 0987074073, 0987074072, 0987074071 or email callcentre@nrb.gov.mw.
The national ID is a key document required for accessing various services in Malawi.
The current drive aims to capture all remaining eligible citizens countrywide.
