Northern Malawi Soccer League Praised for Fairness
The fixtures for both the first and second rounds are expected to be released on Friday, Sept. 6, with games scheduled to begin next weekend.
Mzuzu, Malawi — The Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) is being lauded for its efficient management of the 2024 soccer league, with analysts praising its fairness and transparency, writes Victor Musongole.
“Teams will have time to plan the last phase games and we anticipate a competitive league and NRFA should be commended for this," said soccer analyst Pickford Kamanga.
The league, which is nearing its final stage, has seen eight teams advance from cluster stages, where seven teams competed for the top two spots and a chance to progress to the final phase.
The introduction of relegation has added a new level of competitiveness, according to veteran sports writer Phillip Pasula.
“The absence of teams that reached the last phase last season shows it was competitive, the introduction of relegation and increased sponsorship added flavour to the league,” Pasula noted.
NRFA General Secretary Masiya Nyasulu highlighted the teams’ adherence to rules and regulations as a positive development.
The fixtures for both the first and second rounds are expected to be released on Friday, Sept. 6, with games scheduled to begin next weekend.
Eight teams will compete for the top spot and a chance to be promoted to the Super League: Ekwaiweni Tafika Sports, Lube Masters, Chintheche United, Eagle Strikers, Songwe Border, Chilumba Barracks, Raiply, and Jenda United.
