NOCMA optimistic country's fuel shortage will be over soon

Malawi: The National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) is optimistic that the country's fuel shortage will be over soon, writes Judgement Katika.

This comes as people continue to face long lines to get fuel.

Meanwhile, Lake Oil Limited and Carmel Oil Limited have paid 2.7 billion kwacha ($2.4 million) to four contracted local fuel transporters.

Micklas Reuben, Director of Operations for the National Oil Company of Malawi NOCMA, stated that the recent funding of about 30 billion kwacha secured by the country will soon help to bring in more fuel.

According to Reuben, the country requires 1.7 million litres per day, which equates to a monthly requirement of 51 million litres, which is not being met because the country currently imports about 37 million litres per month.

Meanwhile, Dr Margaret Kubwalo, Treasurer for Women in Logistics and Large Scale Suppliers, praised the government for including local transportation in the process of bringing in fuel, claiming that this will help to boost local businesses.
