Nkhotakota Youth Gain Skills, Tools Through Serengeti Training
Since 2019, Serengeti Nkhotakota Limited has trained over 57 youths in various vocational trades.
Nkhotakota, Malawi-Twelve young people in Chief Malengasanga 1's area in Nkhotakota district have completed vocational training sponsored by Serengeti Nkhotakota Limited, a solar energy company, writes Fletcher Chiponda.
The youths received six months of training at the Nkhotakota Youth and Community Development Organisation (YouthCode) in various trades, including tailoring and carpentry.
Serengeti also purchased tools for the youths to use in their work, such as sewing machines and carpentry kits.
At a certificate presentation ceremony, one of the trainees, Sakina Hassan, expressed gratitude to the company for the opportunity.
"This training has given me the skills and tools I need to start my own business and support myself," Hassan said.
Chikondi Banda, another trainee, said the training will help him create opportunities for other young people in his community.
"I plan to use my skills to teach others and help reduce unemployment among the youth," Banda said.
Chief Malengasanga 1 advised the youths to use their equipment wisely and avoid selling it.
Paul Mhango, manager of Serengeti Nkhotakota Limited, said the company is committed to training more youth in the area.
"We believe that by providing these young people with the skills and tools they need, we can help reduce poverty and unemployment in our community," Mhango said.
Since 2019, Serengeti Nkhotakota Limited has trained over 57 youths in various vocational trades.
The company has signed agreements to provide training for youths in other areas surrounding its operations.
