Nkhotakota Lions Club bails out people with vision issues

Malawi: The Nkhotakota Lions Club has helped people with vision issues by donating optical glasses.
During the ceremony at the district's primary market, the club's interim chairperson Garry Chilinga stated that the assistance is part of the humanitarian charity work done by lions clubs.
"Lions Club is a global club, so our fellow lions from other countries supported us with some glasses. We also thought it wise to have a certain activity here in Nkhotakota to identify and assist those who have problems in sight," Chilinga explained.
"We are very happy and convinced that there are many people who need our assistance here in Nkhotakota. We have had a high turnout in terms of the number of people who have come to attend our activity, which is truly a blessing to us," he added.
Sana Malembe, one of the beneficiaries, stated that the donation is timely because he could not see things from a distance before the donations.
"Before I got these glasses, I couldn't see things from far away, but now I can see things from far away, and I'd like to appeal to other organisations to do the same in order to reach many people because there are many people suffering from different problems in the areas we're coming from," Malembe said.
Nkhotakota Lions Club will soon be established as a separate entity from Dwangwa Lions Club. The club focuses on those in need who are suffering from sight loss, hunger, childhood cancer, diabetes, and environmental issues.
