Nine-Year-Old Chisomo Gift Receives Wheelchair, Brings Relief to Chilankhwi Family
Chilankhwi family rejoices as wheelchair eases mobility challenges for 9-year-old son.
NSANJE, Malawi– The Chilankhwi family in Msayinkhuni village had reason to rejoice as their nine-year-old son, Chisomo Gift, was presented with a wheelchair that has alleviated his mobility challenges, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
The wheelchair, a much-needed aid, has brought a newfound sense of ease to Chisomo's life.
Speaking to AfricaBrief on Thursday, Gift Chilankhwi expressed his surprise and gratitude at the positive turn of events for his son.
He revealed that they had never anticipated such a significant improvement in Chisomo's mobility.
In the past, Chisomo had to rely on his younger brother to carry him to and from school, as well as wherever else he wished to go.
However, with the arrival of the wheelchair, this burden has been lifted from his brother's shoulders.
"Mada is now free from carrying Chisomo, and his new responsibility is pushing the wheelchair, which is considerably lighter than carrying his elder brother," said the grateful father.
Gift Chilankhwi further vowed to take meticulous care of the wheelchair, recognising its crucial role in enabling his child's movement and independence.
The Headteacher of Lulwe Resource Centre Primary School, John Chiwambo, confirmed the momentous development and affirmed that Chisomo, who had long relied on his younger brother for transportation, would now face no challenges accessing the classroom.
He assured that the school premises were disability-friendly, providing equal opportunities for all students.
"Apart from his brother pushing him, others are joining the push," added the dedicated headteacher.
The provision of the wheelchair has not only eased the daily struggles of Chisomo Gift but has also brought the entire Chilankhwi family much-needed relief and hope for a brighter future.
