NICE Trust Engages MBC Artists for Voter Education Ahead of 2025
The collaboration between NICE Trust and MBC aims to ensure widespread, accurate voter education in preparation for the 2025 general elections.
BLANTYRE, Malawi— The National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Trust is collaborating with artists and producers from Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) to enhance voter education ahead of the 2025 general elections, writes Mayamiko Phiri.
The two-day engagement, held in Blantyre from August 8-9, aims to prepare stakeholders for the upcoming elections scheduled for September 16, 2025.
NICE Trust board chairperson Lingalileni Mihowa emphasized the importance of diverse outreach methods.
"Radio dramatics and artists will be a powerful means for us to reach out to people with content that is packaged in an inspiring, exciting, motivational and factual way regarding the elections," Mihowa said.
The initiative focuses on informing citizens about election laws, eligibility, and the registration process through the National Registration Bureau.
Mihowa highlighted the need to engage special groups such as youth, women, and people with disabilities, both as voters and potential candidates.
Popular radio programs like "Pamajiga," "Sewero la sabata ino," and "Nzeru mkupangwa" are expected to play crucial roles in disseminating information.
Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) commissioner Francis Kasaila expressed gratitude for the initiative.
"We are engaging in a very important activity. As a country, we need to make sure that information is reaching every Malawian," Kasaila said, warning that misinformation during the election process could create serious challenges.
