NICE Launches Governance Campaign on Chizumulu Island
NICE has empowered and enlightened 80 Area Development Committee youth members from different villages on the island about good governance and accountability in their communities.
LIKOMA, Malawi — The National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Trust has embarked on a sensitization campaign focused on good governance and electoral laws on Chizumulu Island, an official said Sunday, writes Oliver Malibisa.
"NICE volunteers have a great role to play in civic educating communities to be responsible and accountable to development programs," said Blessings Chaona Mahata, the district programs manager for Likoma.
Speaking on Chizumulu, Mahata advised youths to concentrate on development issues rather than being used by political parties. He said his office is open to everyone.
Bob Katapa, chairperson of the Accountability Club Kalondolondo, welcomed NICE's return to civic education duties in the district.
"The coming back of NICE has empowered us, and it will help to end corruption and bring mindset change," Katapa said.
"I'm very happy now that NICE is back to its duties."
